This is an unfinished space. It is a work in progress. The installation presents the creative process in motion, channeling the atmosphere of a collection photoshoot. It carries a sense of the ad hoc, the erratic, the backstage, and the unchoreographed.
With the release of the Adidas Originals Blue Version Spring Summer 2022 collection, Adidas Originals invited contemporary craft artist Fanglu Lin and phygital architect Nero He to create an art installation titled Bleu for the storefronts of the A3 Adidas store at HKRI Taikoo Hui Shanghai and Sino Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu. The immersive installation brings together Lin’s traditional handcrafted tie-dye works, derived from techniques of the Bai nationality in China, and He’s digitally animated tie-dye reinterpretations to establish a dialogue between physical craft and digital simulation.
The fabrication of the physical installation was developed in constant conversation with its digital counterpart. Through the study of material sampling and material behavior, He advances a new understanding of material agency and proposes an alternative fabrication logic shaped by contemporary technologies.
